What to expect in your first guitar lesson
Your first guitar lesson is free, and it’s mostly about getting to know each other and your playing. We talk about the music you want to play and I get a feel for where your hands are starting from. Then we set up a couple of exercises you can practice right away.
Is the first lesson really free?
Yes. The first lesson costs nothing and there is no commitment. It is there so we can both see whether we are a good fit before you pay for anything.
What happens in the first lesson?
We start with the music you actually want to play. That tells me what to aim for, and it keeps the lesson about something you care about.
From there I set up a few technique exercises that give you a strong foundation. By the end you know the one or two things to practice before we meet again.
Do I need to know anything beforehand?
No. Complete beginners are welcome, and so are players who already know their way around. Just bring a guitar and whatever you can already do, even if that is nothing yet.
What should I bring?
A guitar, and ideally an idea of a song or two you would love to play. If we are meeting online, you also need a device with a camera. That is the whole setup.
What happens after the first lesson?
If you want to keep going, lessons run 30 or 60 minutes. Online is $30 and $60; in person is $40 and $70, around Virginia and the DC area. A monthly plan is available if you would rather pay once at the start of the month.
